Terms and conditions
Last updated: 29 October 2026
The French version prevails.
1. Purpose
These terms govern the use of Maijin Shield (maijinshield.ch), a document anonymisation service published by Maijin Sàrl, Route de Saint-Julien 184, 1228 Plan-les-Ouates (CHE-300.778.667), and the subscription to its paid plans. Creating an account or subscribing to a plan constitutes acceptance of these terms.
2. The service
Maijin Shield identifies the personal and sensitive data in a Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF or XML document, replaces it with labels and then puts the real values back into the reworked document that the user uploads afterwards. The processing of data is described in the privacy policy.
Detection is automatic and cannot be perfect. The user reviews the preview before downloading the anonymised document and remains responsible for what they then pass on to a third-party service, in particular an artificial intelligence assistant.
3. Account
The account is personal. It is opened with an email address, on a team's invitation or by Maijin after a demo; nobody opens their own account. The user looks after the security of their mailbox, which is used to sign in. They can delete their account at any time from their Settings.
4. Teams
A user can create a team, of which they become the owner, and invite other people to it by email. An account belongs to a single team. The owner and the administrators manage the members, the team's plan and the masking settings; they take care to invite only people authorised to process the documents concerned.
The plan subscribed to applies to the whole team, and its limits (number of pages per month) are shared among its members. Only the person who anonymised a document can get its real values back, and only while they are a member of the team; for the team's documents, administrators see the anonymised file name, the date and the email address of the person who anonymised it, and can delete them, without ever seeing the real values. If the team is deleted, its plan is cancelled and each document reverts to the person who anonymised it.
5. Plans
Maijin Shield is offered in three paid plans. The plan to subscribe to depends on the number of members of the team, pending invitations included; an account without a team counts as one person. There is no free plan and no trial period: the demo on the home page lets you try the service without an account.
- Business 1–49 (1 to 49 people): 10,000 pages per month.
- Business 50–299 (50 to 299 people): 20,000 pages per month.
- Business 300+ (300 people and more): 40,000 pages per month.
In every plan, a document may have about 150 pages at most and its real values can be retrieved for 90 days. A team cannot have more members than its plan covers: to invite more people, it moves to the next plan.
Without a plan (before the first subscription or after a subscription ends), the account remains open: the user can sign in and retrieve the real values of documents they have already anonymised, for as long as these are kept, but cannot anonymise new ones.
Pages are counted when the document is anonymised: actual pages for a PDF, one page per 3,000 characters for a Word or Excel document. The limits apply to the account: to the team if the user belongs to one, otherwise to the user. Up-to-date details are on the Pricing page. Maijin Sàrl may change or discontinue the demo at any time.
6. Prices and payment
Prices are in Swiss francs, excluding VAT; Swiss VAT (8.1%) is added. The subscription is paid in advance, monthly or yearly (the yearly price equals ten months), by card, through our payment provider Stripe. It renews automatically for the same period until it is cancelled. An invoice is sent by email at each due date. The price of each plan is given on request (demo, written offer) and shown in the workspace before subscribing.
If a payment fails, Stripe retries the charge for a few days; without settlement, the subscription ends and the account is left without a plan (section 5).
A price change is announced by email at least 30 days in advance and applies from the next due date. A subscriber who does not accept it may cancel before that date.
7. Cancellation
The subscriber (in a team: an administrator) cancels at any time from “Manage my subscription” in their Settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid, at no cost; the period already begun is not refunded pro rata. The account is then left without a plan (section 5); documents already anonymised keep the retention period set when they were anonymised.
Maijin Sàrl may suspend or close an account in the event of abusive use (circumventing limits, attempting to compromise security, unlawful use), after a warning except in urgent cases.
8. User obligations
The user uses the service only for documents they are entitled to process, in compliance with the law, and does not attempt to circumvent its limits or protections.
For the personal data contained in the documents processed, the customer remains the controller and Maijin Sàrl acts as processor. The data processing agreement (Art. 9 FADP) is an annex to these terms: it applies to every subscription and is accepted together with them when subscribing. In the event of a conflict, it prevails over these terms as regards the protection of the data processed on behalf of the customer. Questions: contact@maijin.ch.
9. Availability
Maijin Sàrl makes every effort to keep the service available and reliable, without guaranteeing uninterrupted availability. Interruptions may occur for maintenance or if our hosting providers become unavailable.
10. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Maijin Sàrl's liability is limited to direct damage and to the amount paid by the user in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the damage. This limit does not apply in cases of intentional misconduct or gross negligence. Maijin Sàrl is not responsible for how the user uses the documents produced or for the third-party services to which they entrust them.
11. Changes to the terms
Any significant change is announced by email at least 30 days before it takes effect. A user who does not accept it may cancel their subscription and delete their account.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Swiss law. The place of jurisdiction is Geneva, subject to mandatory places of jurisdiction provided by law, in particular in favour of consumers.
